Enjoy Okinawan Rum at Home! 3 Easy and Delicious Rum Cocktails

Every year on August 16, rum lovers celebrate National Rum Day, a celebration that originated in the United States!

Rum is a spirit made from sugarcane. And here in Okinawa, where sugarcane has long been part of the island’s culture, why not discover a new way to enjoy rum at home?

Even if you’ve never tried rum before, there’s no need to worry. Here are three easy and delicious ways to enjoy rum that are perfect for beginners!

1. Fruit-Infused Rum

First up is fruit-infused rum, made by soaking fresh fruit in rum to infuse it with the fruit’s natural aroma and flavor.

For this recipe, we used the tough, less-easy-to-eat core of a fresh pineapple and infused it in TEEDA WHITE, a white rum.

After letting it steep for a while, the rum takes on the pineapple’s sweet, refreshing aroma, creating a wonderfully fruity flavor.

Simply mix the finished fruit-infused rum with soda water, and you have an easy Pineapple Rum Soda!

For an extra touch, add the pineapple pieces used for infusion to the glass. It makes the drink look colorful and inviting—perfect for enjoying a homemade cocktail at home.

If you prefer a sweeter drink, try adding a little sugar or simple syrup. You can also replace the soda water with tonic water for a different flavor and a slightly more refreshing finish.

2. Rum & Milk

This simple rum cocktail was recommended by our production team. All you need to do is mix rum and milk in a 1:1 ratio!

The rich flavor of rum pairs beautifully with the creamy smoothness of milk, creating a mellow, comforting drink with a luxurious taste.

For a sweeter, dessert-like cocktail, add some simple syrup or sugar to taste.

This time, we tried adding “Kokuto Milk Syrup” from Okinawa Takarajima. The gentle sweetness of Okinawan brown sugar is a perfect match for rum, which is also made from sugarcane.

It’s a smooth, creamy drink that brings a little taste of Okinawa to your glass.

3. Rum & Coke

When it comes to rum cocktails, Rum & Coke is a classic favorite.

It’s incredibly easy to make—just mix rum with cola—making it a great choice even for those who are new to rum.

It’s delicious on its own, but try squeezing in a little fresh lemon or lime for a bright, refreshing citrus kick. It adds a tropical touch that’s perfect for summer!

It’s also a great way to cool down and refresh yourself on a hot day.

Why Not Start with an Easygoing Rum Cocktail?

Rum can be enjoyed in many ways—not just neat or on the rocks. Try mixing it with everyday drinks and ingredients such as soda, cola, milk, or fresh fruit to discover your favorite way to enjoy it.

All of the cocktails featured in this article are easy to make at home. If you’re new to rum, why not start with whichever recipe catches your eye?
