Kusu Day was established in 1999 by the Awamori Centennial Kusu Committee to promote and celebrate Okinawa’s traditional Awamori culture.Awamori that has been aged for three years or more is known as Kusu (aged Awamori). It is characterized by its smooth, mellow flavor and rich, fragrant aroma.

One of Helios Distillery’s recommended Kusu (aged Awamori) is “Nushi,” a premium Kusu carefully crafted by our master distiller and aged in traditional earthenware jars.
The name “Nushi” (ぬーし) means “master” or “head of the household.” It reflects the idea of a Kusu that has reached a level of quality worthy of being enjoyed by the head of the household. “Nushi” is traditionally aged and stored in earthenware jars.
With its exceptional aroma and rich, refined flavor, “Nushi” opens up a whole new dimension of Awamori. It is a deep and sophisticated 100% Kusu that truly deserves to be called a classic of aged Awamori.
Its rich aroma and deep flavor, developed through aging in earthenware jars, are complemented by a satisfying body and exceptionally smooth finish. It has become a favorite among Awamori enthusiasts, with many returning to enjoy it again and again.
“Nushi” is available as 3-year Kusu at 30% ABV, 5-year Kusu at 30% and 43% ABV, and 21-year Kusu at 40% ABV. We also offer a product in an earthenware jar that allows you to continue enjoying the aging process at home.
Awamori is a spirit that “grows with age.” The longer it is aged, the more you can discover and appreciate its remarkable depth and character.
At the Kusu-gura Shop, why not enjoy a tasting and compare the different aging periods and alcohol strengths? It is a wonderful way to experience the unique character of each Kusu.
We hope you’ll give it a try!
